New Zealand Calling Plans

Regulatory changes to the New Zealand telecommunications industry have become a part of the market landscape since the Telecommunications Act was passed in 2001. In late 2011, the incumbent operator Telecom New Zealand was split so that the fibre network could be deployed. The Ultra-Fast Broadband Network (UFB) will eventually see fast broadband deployed across the country.

The fixed-line voice market continues to lose overall share of the telecom services market, partly caused by the drop in call prices and volumes as the uptake of mobile. Mobile market penetration, at around 120-125 per cent, is growing steadily as operators provide add-on packs attracting increased usage at a lower cost.
